Story

Hampton was the Central Sect's Saint until poison from people he trusted nearly killed him. He vanished for three years, presumed dead, watching from the shadows as Dexter and the other conspirators carved up everything he had built. When he finally surfaces, he does it under a borrowed name, married to Leandra in a contract neither of them expected to mean anything.

Leandra thinks she married a nobody with a useful surname. Hampton uses every banquet, every public ceremony, every stage the powerful gather on to pull one thread at a time until Dexter's lies start to fray in front of witnesses. The closer he gets to the men who poisoned him, the more his real identity threatens to surface, and once it does, there is no quiet life left for either of them.
