Erik sells mystery boxes from a small stall, ten yuan each, with his daughter Stephani beside him. The boxes are cheap and look like junk, but what's inside them isn't ordinary: tree roots that heal, blueprints that rescue failing companies, traces of something older than the city itself.
Stephani opens three and changes her family's luck. Word spreads fast, and soon crowds, rivals, and people who want the boxes for themselves are all circling the stall. Erik keeps selling, one box at a time, while something patient waits at the bottom of the last three thousand.
